BackPorch Bluegrass: Music

Carolina Mountain Boy

(BackPorch Bluegrass)
Billy Ray Summerlin
Way back in the hills and the holler’s
Now boy’s he could put on a show
Come flying down that old dirt road
Right behind him the highway patrol

Chorus
He was a Carolina mountain boy
I said a Carolina mountain boy
Drove that black ’40 Ford
That made a whole lot of noise
Carolina Mountain Boy

I remember one time at Walt Davis’ store
I saw him coming down that road
And he hit that curve at a 104
Walt said he had a lot of nerve

CHORUS

Well he pulled into that little country garage
And had that motor overhauled
With six carburetors and an offenhauser head
That car ran on alcohol

CHORUS

Now he made his last run down to Lexington
To the bootleg whiskey store
The sheriff was awaiting and shot him through the door
He hits the switch that engines roar

CHORUS

Now a lot of folks around have often wondered
Did he live or did he die
Well he’s back in the mountains counting all that money
Letting life roll right on by

CHORUS
